Emergency Department Clinical Exposure and Mentoring Summer
Internship
The six-week summer internship exposes students to a acute health care setting at Highland General Hospital in East Oakland directly observing patient care in the emergency department, learning basic research design and terms, participating in a research project as a research assistant, and receiving didactic teaching during weekly conferences. Clinical Exposure and
Shadow Program
This is an extended version of the summer internship. Students will shadow physicians in the ED, participate in MCAT Prep and test taking skills workshops, and learn basic clinical research. Mentor a Future Health Professional Campaign Health Care Professionals are trained to become a certified MIM mentor. After training, professionals are paired with students and develop relationships by allowing their assigned student to shadow in their practice. Professionals also provide guidance for successful career growth. Health Professionals (MD, Dentistry Physician Assistants, Public Health, Nurses, Optometrists, Pharmacists, etc.) More information coming soon!
Healthy Ambassador
Program
Health Professionals and College students will train middle and high school students to become ambassadors of health in their communities. Health topics will focus on hypertension, diabetes, and stroke. Once students are trained they will educate their family and friends.
