Position Description: The Mount Sinai Neuropathology Brain Bank & Research CoRE (director: Dr. John Crary,
 MD-PhD) is seeking student research assistants. As a part of the program, research assistants will be trained to
 deploy approaches to diagnose and study brain diseases (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, chronic traumatic
 encephalopathy, Parkinson’s disease, COVID-19-related encephalopathy, etc.). Research assistants will also
 gain exposure to challenges associated with treatment modalities, diagnosis, and research design. For more

Responsibilities:
 – Assisting physicians and laboratory personnel in brain tissue dissection
 – Assisting in histological processing of specimens
 – Assisting in the day-to-day operations of the brain bank
 – Interfacing with clinicians and research scientists
 – Opportunity to contribute to an ongoing research project
Position requirements:
 – Strong academic potential
 – Ideally a rising junior or senior college student working on a Bachelor’s degree
 – Some exposure to neuroscience, psychology, or related discipline strongly recommended (i.e.,
 undergraduate major)
 – Excellent organizational skills
 – Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
 – Intent to matriculate into a Ph.D., M.D., or other higher education program
 – Part of an underrepresented group in STEM (Black/African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American or
 Pacific Islander) and/or students from economically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds (first
 generation college attendee, low income, etc.)
Time commitment: This is a full-time, paid summer internship position, Monday – Friday, 9 – 5 pm and
 occasional weekend coverage (8 weeks minimum). The program will run June – August, 2024.
